synopsis
The work is structured in 3 parts: the first one shows the context of his birth, the life of the teenager who searches himself in his environment and grows up receiving the impacts of a hectic world. In the second part, Vicente Ferrer looks for his own way by developing his vital project until his death. The third part is not focused in the individual, but on the fruit of his work, that transcends and perpetuates him.
act 1: materials
The first section of the work is a symphonic overture, where the author shows the material that will be developed in the whole Opera Collage. Entitled Barcelona 1920, the intend is that this part could be played independently from the rest of
the work.
Then the action is focused on Vicente Ferrer's childhood in Barcelona. Here appears the Choir of the Cathedral as a peaceful backwater. The social movements of the period and the uneasiness between the wars are portrayed as well as the crisis of faith, the burst of the Spanish Civil War and the magical moment of the certainty of a supreme order.
Later it is shown the end of a war without winners, the attempt to go back to normal life and the admission to the Jesuits order as a way of improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable persons. Finally the journey to the universe of great contrasts of India.
act 2:foundations
A cultured and sensitive character who strives for finding the way to a better world has been formed. Vicente Ferrer discovers in India an unfair reality, with big social inequalities which make freedom and people autonomy to choose their own destiny difficult. An inner strength which does not tolerate the indolence and contemplation, pushes away him from the set in stone way and he undertakes his own.
Understanding "the man, the humanity, Providence and the world as it is", he succeeds in creating a new hope and to overcome the roadblocks that life raises. Beside his inseparable wife Anna and a good group of collaborators, he undertakes the titanic task of creating a social organization that favor a better future for thousands of people. Focusing on education and health, sustainability and efficiency, he creates in 1969 the Foundation in Anatapur (India), known as Rural Development Trust, and later in 1996 Fundación Vicente Ferrer in Spain.
Vicente Ferrer dies in 2009 in Anantapur leaving a seed of hope and an example for thousands of people.
act 3: the work
The last act of the opera focuses on the fruit of the seed of Vicente Ferrer. It shows how it has been useful for improving the life of so many persons, giving a future to persons with disabilities, struggling for the empowerment of women, and return the dignity and the rights to the dalits or untouchable -the last step of the system of castes-. In Spain as in the rest of the world, he has pushed towards the action many volunteer and collaborators who share directly this big work of solidarity.
