Opera Collage

A new show format to bring symphonic and choral music to 21st Century

Opera Collage is a new kind of show, designed by Joan Martínez Colás, that integrates the symphony and choral
music with other artistic languages. In this case, the new technologies have a special protagonism, such as the 3D
animation and video, and the dance is used as a dramatic element. The audience will also take part of the show.

Regarding music, The man of the umbrella will have a broad variety of styles, that proves the belonging of the author to a generation influenced by the cinematographic language. The result is a work with an up-to-date expressive dimension, closer to a soundtrack than to classical symphony.

The structure of the music is a great oratorio where the orchestra also incorporates new colors brought by instruments coming from the traditional music and pop: tenora (kind of oboe for tradicional catalan music) and the electric guitar. Saxophone, the piano and the keyboards will be new members of the symphonic orchestra.

Joan Martínez Colás has already premiered and directed with the musical sets he is leading, several Opera Collage. Set maneres d’estimar (Seven ways to love) in Palau de la Música Catalana, Barcelona, 2007, Solitud Vermella (Red Solitude) in Palau de la Música Catalana, Barcelona, 2008, La Veu del S.XX (The voice of XXth Century) in Municipal Auditorium of Terrassa, 2008 and L'Escola de Música (The School of Music) in L'Auditori, Barcelona, 2009. These have confirmed that the Opera Collage  surprises and entertains the audience. This year, Joan Martínez Colás have also premiered El pes del Temps (The Weight of the Time) and Clau de Lluna (Treble of Moon) in the Municipal Auditorium of Terrassa besides The man of the umbrella, The Amazon's secret and L'aniversari (The birthday) which will be released during the year.

Because of the scenic and musical dimension, as well as for the meaning of the contents of the work, the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona has been chosen for the première of The man of the umbrella, a show that is born with a clear international vocation.
